Group Therapy

Group Therapy
Group therapy can be a useful way of connecting to others around shared or similar experiences, as well as learning more about yourself through your interactions with others. For some, group therapy is their sole source of treatment, while for others it is a helpful compliment to individual therapy. Whichever way you choose to engage in group, group therapy can offer the chance to share your truth with others and to practice being more genuine. Most people who participate in group therapy express appreciation for realizing they are not alone in what they experience, as well as in learning how others have navigated various challenges.

Confidentiality
All information provided as part of the therapy experience, including whether or not I have ever seen a particular person in therapy, is kept confidential. This means that I cannot release any information about clients unless I have their written permission to do so. Under the APA Ethics Code and DC Law, there are some exceptions wherein I may be required to divulge information (i.e. if a client indicates specific, imminent harm to self or others; situations of child/elder abuse where a person is currently at risk of harm; as required by a court order).

In Washington, DC, group therapy members are also required to honor the confidentiality of other group members. This means that any information that group members share in group must be kept confidential and cannot be shared with others outside of group.

Confidentiality will be thoroughly discussed with each client prior to starting therapy.
