Individual Therapy

Please note that as of July 2020, I will no longer offer in-person services in the District of Columbia. Until further notice, I will only provide teletherapy services to clients with whom I have already initiated services. For prospective clients who are seeking a DC-based therapist, I am able to refer you to a local clinician.

Consultation
I offer a free 20-minute phone or in-person consultation wherein you can learn more about my style and decide whether I am the right kind of therapist for you, and I can learn more about what you are seeking from therapy and decide whether I am the best person to help you with those needs. If it seems as though we would be a good fit to work together, then this would also serve as a transition to begin therapy. If not, then I am also able to provide referrals for providers who may better fit your therapy needs.

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy consists of 50-minute sessions. The duration of the therapy experience depends on the client's needs and desires. I am able to provide both short-term and long-term therapy, depending on what is most appropriate. While some clients know from the beginning exactly how long they plan to commit to therapy, others require more time to outline a treatment plan. Either way, we will work together to decide an appropriate timeline. For most clients, weekly sessions are the best way to see the results they desire.

The therapy experience is collaborative. Each client is the expert on their experience, but they do not always know how to make sense of it. I see my role as being one of helping to shed light on certain patterns and offering guidance on what steps will bring each person closer to the life they are seeking. Therapy with me is validating, empowering, and enlightening.

I work with people who present with a variety of concerns, including, but not limited to:
  • Adjustment to transitions
  • Anxiety
  • College/Graduate school life
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • LGBTQ+ concerns
  • Multicultural concerns
  • Polyamory/Consensual nonmonogamy
  • Relationship concerns
  • Self-harm
  • Stress management
  • Trauma
  • Unwanted sexual experiences

I am a specialist in eating disorders, trauma, and LGBTQ+ concerns.

Confidentiality
All information provided as part of the therapy experience, including whether or not I have ever seen a particular person in therapy, is kept confidential. This means that I cannot release any information about clients unless I have their written permission to do so. Under the APA Ethics Code and DC Law, there are some exceptions wherein I may be required to divulge information (i.e. if a client indicates specific, imminent harm to self or others; situations of child/elder abuse where a person is currently at risk of harm; as required by a court order). Confidentiality will be thoroughly discussed with each client prior to starting therapy.
